Encaustic wax, hand dyed tissue paper on birch board.

The underlayer of this painting is tissue which has been hand dyed using a traditional Japanese Shibori style of dying to create abstract floral images. This design has then been enhanced with the addition of coloured encaustic wax to create a vibrant, colourful painting of abstract flowers characterised by rich yellow ochre tones. The background of the painting shows layers of luminous wax with beautiful textured ripples of tissue paper captured to represent stems and intertwined leaves. Gold highlights add a touch of elegance shimmering against the early palette. The interplay of warm ochres, lush greens and gleaming gold give a sense of vitality and joy reminiscent of a sunlit garden in full bloom.

The surface of this painting has some texture on the flower centres, which makes it tactile. The edges of this piece are finished with the distinctive ‘shou sugi ban’ charred wood.
