How to hand dye abstract tissue paper

Materials
- Large and small paint brush
- Selection of watercolour or acrylic inks
- Carnival Wet strength tissue paper: www.carnivalpapers.com
Equipment
- Silicone protective mat
- Parchment paper
- Spray bottle filled with water
- Heat gun
INSTRUCTIONS
Step 1.
Lay out your materials and equipment.
Step 2.
Scrunch the plain tissue paper and dampen it with water using the spray bottle. The scrunching gives texture to the final design.
Step 3.
Dip the paintbrush in your ink and splash on random marks across the scrunched paper.
Step 4.
Spray on more water to help inks to merge. Ensure most of the scrunched sheet is covered with ink. If you keep the tissue wrapped up in a ball you will have some white undyed sections in the middle, which adds to the interest in the design.
Step 5.
Set tissue paper aside to dry overnight. Lay on parchment paper. Or you can carefully dry the tissue paper using a heat gun on a low heat.
Step 6.
Spread out when dry.
